Although many pre-Christian cultures worshiped the sun in a goddess aspect, the sun was also associated with the embodiment of masculine energies and the God, himself. Known as our source of warmth, strength, and light, the Sun is seen as the giver of life, energy, and illumination. Made predominantly of hydrogen, with a small amount of helium and trace amounts of many other elements such as oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen, the sun is one giant sphere of fiery gases. The element of fire is directly linked to physical energy, action, destructive and purifying forces.
The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Limited exposure to the sun helps your body produce vitamin D which helps your body absorb and use calcium; serotonin which aids sleep, appetite, mood, and anxiety; and melatonin which is released in darkness to help us sleep. Keep hydrated, wear sunscreen or proper sun-protective gear (e.g. sunglasses, hat) and limit your time in the sun. Too much exposure to sunlight can result in fatigue, lethargy, disorientation, dehydration, nausea, dizziness, burns, and heat stroke.
Daylight rituals involving the sun's magical energies may be focused around career, success, prosperity, empowerment, physical energy and activity, infusing our tools or self with solar energies, and ritual sun dances.

Classic Sun Tea
Tea infused with the energies of the sun.
Find a large clear glass jar or pitcher.
Wash and sterilize it thoroughly.
Fill with filtered or fresh spring water.
Add 4-6 tea bags to every quart of water.
Cover and set in direct sunlight for no longer than 4 hours.*
Remove tea bags, add lemon and honey (optional).
Stir and serve over ice. Refrigerate immediately.
* Sun tea has a risk of creating bacteria due to prolonged exposure to warm temperatures. If you see a lot of long strands floating in your tea, or it looks thick and syrupy, it has grown bacteria in it and is not safe to drink. A safe alternative can be made with the same recipe, substituting steeping the tea in the refrigerator for 6 or more hours.
